The yarn, raw material for artistic creation

In this exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Sheila Hicks’ lines unfurl in space and call upon our senses. The colors, for example, catch the eye to offer vibrant paintings reminiscent of the work of Josef Albers, Sheila Hicks’ teacher at Yale. In addition to the senses, each of these works testifies to different skills, inspired by the countries visited by the artist.

From the generous and gigantic works of the artist to the framed Minimes, like some treasures discovered during archaeological digs, these threads become witnesses to lives, cultures and beliefs linked to this delicate weaving art.

Sheila Hicks’ works are between weaving, sculpture and architectural pieces.
