Since June 19th, La Mob has opened its doors! It is a place dedicated to the past, present and future artists of Ménerbes. At Creative Tech, we particularly like collaborative approaches, so it is with great pleasure that we have joined forces with the Maison Dora Maar to collectively curate this artistic venue! For those of you who weren’t lucky enough to be in Provence for the opening, the current exhibition runs until September 25th before making way for a new exhibition in the fall!

The history of la Maison Dora Maar

A gift from Pablo Picasso to Dora Maar in 1944, this house in the heart of the Luberon, in the village of Ménerbes, is marked by a strong history. Dora Maar lived there until the end of her life. It is also in this village that many artists have found inspiration: Nicolas de Stael, Joe Downing or Jane Eakin.

Thanks to the Nancy Negley Foundation, Dora Maar’s house has become a place of residence for international artists and intellectuals. Gwen Strauss, writer, poet and director of the place, wanted to open the doors of this house to the public in order to let them discover this emblematic place. The mob is a place where disciplines cross paths, where sensitive discoveries are made and where people meet. We’ll be there very soon?

The curation of the mob 

The two rooms currently hosting the space La Mob were initially an oil mill and Dora Maar’s garage. To rehabilitate these spaces, the objective was to keep apparent the historical traces and symbolic materials of the Luberon: the stones, the vaults and the doors are revealed thanks to the sober and modern lines brought by the natural wood, the removable picture rails and the historical furniture of the house repainted in the luminous green of the place. An exhibition space that embraces its past while being highly scalable to fully accommodate future exhibitions!

And that’s not all…

In keeping with the spirit of discovery, the mob also welcomes objects related to Dora Maar and her entourage and the artists in residence, current or from previous years: a selection of books (some very rare! ) on artists linked to Ménerbes and Dora Maar, but also poets, writers, performers, perfumers, visual artists in residence and also gift ideas around Dora Maar’s universe: Lefranc Bourgeois oils, Winsor & Newton watercolors, natural candles with the scent of spring in Provence, drawing books, notebooks, postcards, …
